The interim manager was commissioned by an international technical service provider in the mobility sector as an interim project controller for publicly funded projects. The increasing number of subsidized projects and the associated project controlling required additional resources in order to implement the project controlling in accordance with state aid regulations in the necessary quality in addition to the internal controlling. As the interim manager has more than 14 years of experience in the field of public funding, he took on responsibility in the innovation team for analysing and optimizing project controlling and making it audit-proof.
Increasing data quality through standardized documentation processes
The company was founded more than 40 years ago as a spin-off from RWTH Aachen University and has since grown into a large international company. The company is extremely active in research and development (R&D), and not just because of its continuing close links with the university. The company management attaches great importance to R&D projects, the number of which is constantly increasing. At the same time, the company makes targeted use of opportunities to partially finance individual R&D projects with public funding (EU and federal government).
After analysing the current situation, the interim manager first optimized the documentation of data and records by standardizing reports and routines. He then analyzed the processes for data generation, data collection, data processing and data evaluation in detail. Among other things, this revealed weaknesses in data consistency and quality. The interim manager was able to eliminate these weaknesses by defining and implementing routines and standards through multivariate data reconciliation.
Dashboards ensure transparency in project controlling
At the end of this optimization, the interim manager defined and created dashboards for project controlling that make the handling of funding transparent for project management, treasury and management at a glance.
In the mandate, the interim manager familiarized several employees in controlling with the specifics of funding R&D projects. The team is increasingly able to settle publicly funded projects with project sponsors and funding bodies in a high-quality manner.
The interim manager continues to work for the company with new mandates.
Enterprise content system: optimization through digitalization
In addition, the interim manager was given the task of digitalizing individual workflows through the use of an enterprise content system. The interim manager played a key role in drawing up the specifications and supported the introduction by providing online training for decentralized and international user groups.
